FC Volendam introduces a new return system for reusable cups
FC Volendam transitioned to reusable cups last season at the Kras Stadion to reduce waste on match days and cut down on plastic usage. This season, the club is introducing a new return system for these cups.

The new system will be implemented for the first time this coming Sunday during the home match against FC Emmen. Upon entering the stadium, spectators will receive a token from the stewards, which can be exchanged for a reusable cup when ordering a drink. The cup is then returned after each use. If you don’t have a cup or a token, you’ll be charged €1 for a new cup. This amount cannot be refunded after the match.

Orange Circle and sustainable reusable cups

Through its CPA partner and sustainability platform Orange Circle, FC Volendam is committed to promoting a sustainable environment. One of the initiatives the club has supported for several seasons is the separation of plastic disposable cups, which were previously used for serving drinks. With the introduction of reusable cups, in collaboration with Circular Plastics Alliance and partner DutchCups, FC Volendam is taking a new step toward sustainability. These reusable cups are made from strategic materials and are part of a ‘closed loop’ system. At the end of their life cycle, the cups are recycled one-to-one and processed into new reusable cups. The cups are cleaned after each match, ensuring they meet all hygiene standards.

You can see more about this in the video where footballers Robert Mühren and Damon Mirani took care of cleaning the reusable cups after the last home match of last season.
