Circular Plastics Alliance proudly welcomes a new partner: IKO. As a leading manufacturer of roofing membranes, liquid waterproofing products, and insulation boards, IKO contributes to more sustainable solutions in the construction industry.
IKO is an international family-owned company with over 35 factories and 4,000 employees worldwide. The company specializes in the production of bituminous and synthetic roofing systems, liquid waterproofing products, and rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation boards. In Europe, IKO’s factories are market leaders in various segments of the construction and infrastructure sector. With a history dating back to 1911, IKO continues to focus on innovation and sustainability.
IKO takes concrete steps to reduce its ecological footprint. The company produces building materials that lower the environmental impact of buildings and works on reducing energy consumption within its production facilities. Additionally, IKO invests in LCA software to measure the impact of products and raw materials and increases certification capacity to enhance environmental certification. To improve transparency regarding its carbon footprint, IKO submits its declarations to external audits.
IKO focuses on the separate collection and reuse of various waste streams. PU briquettes and production scrap are mechanically recycled, while end-of-life PU waste is directed toward reuse and, depending on quality, can be recycled. EPS waste is recycled by suppliers, and plastic packaging is separately collected and recycled.
By joining the Circular Plastics Alliance, IKO contributes to reducing and recycling plastic waste. The company aims to actively participate by sharing experiences and developing sustainable solutions together with other members. One concrete initiative is the use of recycling bags on a project basis for the separate collection of packaging films. IKO expects this initiative to contribute to more efficient recycling and a more sustainable construction industry.
With IKO’s membership, the Circular Plastics Alliance strengthens its mission to promote circular solutions within the plastics chain. Together, we take steps towards a more sustainable future!
