How do you combine innovation and sustainability?

On March 27, members of the KNB Sustainable Packaging Task Force, representatives of Van der Sanden, Caprice and KNB, visited the innovation center of Circular Plastics Alliance partner Cabka in Valencia. The mission of this delegation was to gain and share extensive knowledge about the many aspects involved in the development of the circular plastic Hulo pallet for masonry bricks.

During the visit, the working group explored different departments and had intensive interactions with the employees involved, from the 3D design process to testing recycled materials and automating production. Various technical tests were also carried out to demonstrate the strength of the pallets.

The insight gained from the development of the circular Hulo pallet can be of great value for the impact of upcoming regulations, such as the future Packaging Regulation (PPWR) and Sustainability Reporting (CSRD) targets towards 2023. The PPWR regulations will set stricter requirements to the recyclability and improving circular properties of products and packaging and the CSRD regulations emphasize promoting circularity and reducing waste by encouraging Reuse and Recycling of products.

With thanks to Gertjan Janssen, Rudi Sluiter and Arie Mooiman for their valuable contributions to this initiative.
